چکیده

A PIV algorithm is presented for estimating time-averaged or phase-averaged velocity fields. The algorithm can be applied to situations where signal strength is not sufficient for standard cross correlation techniques, such as a low number of particle images in an interrogation spot, or poor image quality. The algorithm can also be used to increase the spatial resolution of measurements by allowing smaller interrogation spots than those required for standard cross correlation techniques. The quality of the velocity measurements can be dramatically increased by averaging a series of instantaneous correlation functions, before determining the location of the signal peak, as opposed to the commonly used technique of estimating instantaneous velocity fields first and then averaging the velocity fields. The algorithm is applied to a 30 mm3300 mm microchannel flow. @S0098-2202~00!00602-7#

Integration of non-time-resolved PIV and time-resolved velocity point sensors for dynamic estimation of time-resolved velocity fields

We demonstrate a three-step method for estimating time-resolved velocity fields using time-resolved point measurements and non-time-resolved particle image velocimetry (PIV) data. First, we use linear stochastic estimation to obtain an initial set of time-resolved estimates of the flow field. These initial estimates are then used to identify a linear model of the flow physics. The model is inco...

Development of a Low Cost and Safe PIV for Mean Flow Velocity and Reynolds Stress Measurements

In this study, a white light particle image velocimetry (WL PIV) system which employs a light sheet generated with a flash was used. The system was developed in order to provide a cost-efficient and safe alternative to laser systems while keeping the accuracy limits required for hydraulic model tests. To investigate the accuracy of WL PIV method under different flow conditions, experiments were...

Integration of non-time-resolved PIV and time-resolved velocity point sensors for dynamic estimation of velocity fields

We demonstrate a three-step method for estimating time-resolved velocity fields using time-resolved point measurements and non-time-resolved particle image velocimetry data. A variant of linear stochastic estimation is used to obtain an initial set of time-resolved estimates of the flow field. These estimates are then used to identify a linear model of the flow dynamics. The model is incorporat...

Nested multi-resolution PIV measurements of wall bounded turbulence at high Reynolds numbers

Here we describe the use of a nested high magnification camera configuration within a large field of view (FOV) PIV experiment. The objective of these measurements is to obtain instantaneous velocity flow fields to resolve the wide range of scales present in turbulent boundary layers at high Reynolds numbers of up to Reτ ≈ 20000. Flow statistics are compared against previous measurements made u...
